Basically in the fall of 1968 a guy named Joel Silver proposed a game of frisbee with his friends. The game probably stemmed from a similar game played at a summer camp that he had attended in Massachusetts taught by a guy named Jared Kass. A group of high school students then played and refined the rules of the game somewhere in New Jersey.

The first intercollegiate ultimate frisbee competition in history was held at Rutgers’s New Brunswick campus between Rutgers and Princeton on November 6, 1972, the 103rd anniversary of the first intercollegiate game of American football featuring the same schools competing in the same location. Ultimate Frisbee Rules

I was going write all the rules down here that I could find on the sport but there a lot.

The game begins with a “pull” which is sort of like a kick off. The disc is then passed until caught in the end zone and then another pull restarts play. Brings me back to the good ‘Ol phrase “losers walk”. Good luck and have fun!

Ultimate Frisbee – The Basic Game

Ultimate Frisbee is actually just “ultimate” now. It may have always been, but many people don’t realize that and/or don’t care. Apparently “Frisbee” is a registered trademark of Wham-O’s, ergo it’s a brand name not a sport. And people don’t even play ultimate with a Frisbee anymore anyway. They now use an Ultra-Star. A what!? The Ultra-Star is an ultimate disc created by the company Discraft, it has replaced the Frisbee on almost every ultimate field around the world. The Ultra-Star ultimate disc is now the official disc for the UPA (Ultimate Players Association) Championship Series – It doesn’t get any higher than that. It’s the most popular disc among ultimate players and is the disc used for High School and College Championship games. I guess it’s just better (shoulder shrug)?

THE ULTIMATE GAME – Anyway, ultimate is a fast paced sport that involves a lot of running, eye hand coordination, teamwork, running, strategy and did I mention A. Lot. Of. Running. But it’s fun. I hate running personally but ultimate is great, you don’t even realize you’re running, but if you get competitive that is what it comes down to, running. The play of ultimate goes, throw the disc, a teammate catches the disc and stops running, then throws to another teammate who (supposedly) catches the disc. Meanwhile the defense tries to block you from throwing the disc and tries to intercept or knock down the disc before it gets to your teammate. Oh, and you score when you or your teammate catch the disc while standing in the end zone. Field is 70ft x 40ft with 20ft endzones.
